PAO PAO demo save transfer: the updated official answer

Yes. The September 18, 2026 official PAO PAO demo patch notes explicitly state that demo saves can transfer to the full version. That replaces an older March 2025 developer reply that expected little or no carryover. The full-game transfer could not be tested before the announced launch, so the exact import steps are still unverified.

The official answer

The controlling source is the official demo patch note published on September 18, 2026. It directly states that saves from the demo can be transferred to the full version of the game. That is the developer's current, official position. It applies to the prerelease demo released in September 2026.

This is the answer to trust when sources disagree. A news article or forum post repeating it is not an independent transfer test, only a restatement. For the original wording, read the patch note on the PAO PAO Steam news feed. It sits alongside other demo fixes from the same update.

Why older answers say no

Search results still surface a different answer from 2025. On March 6, 2025, a developer named SHISHKOFF replied on the Steam forum that the earlier demo was not expected to transfer normally. At that time, players were told to expect little or no carryover. Many players therefore planned to start over at launch.

That reply was accurate for its time but has since been superseded. The September 2026 patch notes changed the policy for the current demo. If you find the old answer first, remember that the newer official statement replaces it. Check the date on any answer you read.

What has not been tested yet

PAO PAO is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access on October 26, 2026. Before that date, nobody outside the studio could load a demo save into the full game. As a result, the actual import steps could not be verified for this page.

We do not know yet whether the transfer happens automatically or through a menu option. We also do not know how it handles co-op sessions or every older demo build. This page will add a tested walkthrough once the full version is available. The test will note the build and date used.

Protect your demo save

Until the process is documented, the safest move is to keep your demo save intact. Do not delete the demo or its files before you have confirmed the transfer worked. A save you remove cannot be carried over.

Avoid unofficial guides that tell you to move or rename save files in specific folders. No save-folder path has been verified for this process. Follow official instructions once they are published. They will appear in the official news feed or in game.

Steam Cloud is not proof of transfer

Steam Cloud keeps saves in sync between computers for the same game. That alone does not prove that a demo save and a full-game save are compatible. The demo and the full game are separate Steam applications, numbers 3498580 and 3024130.

The transfer support comes from the developer's patch notes, not from Steam Cloud. Treat cloud syncing as a convenience, not a guarantee of carryover. The official notes are the only basis for saying transfer is supported. Cloud sync may still help keep your demo save safe.

What demo videos do and do not show

Recent demo playthroughs show the game, not the transfer. NAC Games' September 27, 2026 session and Becktoriiia's October 22, 2026 session were both recorded before launch. Neither demonstrates importing a demo save into the full game.

Continuing a demo save across sessions is normal play, not evidence of a full-game transfer. Do not treat ordinary progress in a video as proof. The patch notes remain the only verified source on this question. Videos recorded after launch may change that.

Older demo builds

The demo has existed in several versions since 2025. The September 2026 statement covers transfer to the full version, but it does not promise compatibility with every historical build. Saves from very old demos may behave differently.

If you played an older demo, consider starting fresh in the current one before launch. That way your progress comes from the build the patch notes describe. You also get the benefit of the many fixes added since. Those include improvements to tutorials, fishing and farming.

Co-op saves and hosts

Many players try the demo with friends in online co-op for up to four players. How transferred saves work for hosts and guests has not been confirmed. We do not know whose progress carries over in a shared session. Guessing could lead players to lose progress.

Until that is documented, keep the host's demo save safe. When the full version arrives, check official notes before assuming a guest's progress will follow. The co-op guide covers multiplayer in general. It also explains lobby codes.

The table shows why search results disagree. The newest official statement is the one that applies to the current demo. We will add a row once the transfer has been tested in the full game.

Why play the demo now

With transfer announced, time spent in the demo is more worthwhile. You can learn the restaurant checklist, fishing and farming before launch. The demo is free on Steam and supports solo or co-op play.

The current prerelease demo opened on September 14, 2026. Our demo guide explains how to download it. The beginner guide helps you make the most of your first session. Start with a small menu and the opening checklist.

After launch: what to check

When Early Access begins, look for official instructions on importing demo progress. Check the PAO PAO news feed on Steam and any in-game prompts. Do not delete your demo save until the full game shows your progress.

If something goes wrong, report it with your demo build, whether you hosted and what you saw. The official Steam community and the ArtDock Discord are the places to report. This page will be updated with tested steps and their date. Clear reports help everyone get answers faster.

What is not confirmed

Several transfer details remain unknown before launch. There is no verified save-folder path, automatic import prompt or ownership rule for shared co-op saves. Compatibility with every historical demo is not confirmed either. These gaps are normal before a game has launched.

The confirmed fact is simple: official notes say demo saves can transfer to the full version. Everything else will be added once tested. Keep your save safe until then. We will update this page once the full game is tested.
