Where to download the demo
The demo is offered on the official PAO PAO Steam page. The publisher's announcement points players to that official Steam route. Following it avoids similarly named games and unofficial downloads. Check that ArtDock and Dreland Enterprises are named on the page.
The demo has its own application number, 3498580, which currently redirects to the main game page. From there you can install the demo like any other Steam title. The full game itself is application 3024130. Both live under the same store page for now.
Is the demo free?
Yes, the demo is free. Dreland Enterprises, the publisher, explicitly describes it as free to play. You do not need to buy anything to try it. A Steam account is all you need.
The free label applies to the demo only. The full Early Access game is a separate purchase, and its launch price had not been published when we checked. See the price guide for the current status. A developer has said a launch discount is planned.
The current prerelease demo
The latest version of the demo opened on September 14, 2026, according to an official announcement. It is a prerelease demo ahead of the October 26, 2026 Early Access launch. The announcement confirms the opening but does not give a set completion time. How long you play depends on your pace.
Since then, patches on September 18 and October 1, 2026 have updated the game. Those patches touched tutorials, fishing, farming, recipes and multiplayer. The demo you download today may therefore differ from videos recorded earlier. When in doubt, follow the prompts in your own game.
An older demo history
The demo application existed before the September 2026 version. Independent writers played earlier builds, including Cozy Escapism in November 2025 and LadiesGamers in January 2026. Those impressions describe a tutorial, restaurant setup, cooking, serving and ingredient gathering. Both were written from hands-on play.
Their accounts predate the current prerelease patches, so some details may have changed. An old release forecast from one of them is not repeated here. Use older impressions for flavor, and newer sources for specifics. This guide marks which is which.
What you do in the demo
The demo centers on running a restaurant and exploring town. In a September 27, 2026 session, NAC Games reaches an opening task list at around 06:07. It connects buying groceries, placing equipment, preparing a menu and opening the restaurant. Working through it in order is the smoothest start.
Becktoriiia's October 22, 2026 session shows the same preparation tasks at about 13:52. After the restaurant basics, town quests lead toward fishing and farming. Our beginner guide walks through that first session step by step. It links each step to a more detailed guide.
Playing the demo with friends
The demo supports co-op, not just solo play. The publisher confirms solo or co-op for up to four players in total. That makes the demo a free way to test the game with your group. Agree on roles before opening the restaurant.
The September 18 patch fixed lobby-code entry with the Steam keyboard. The October 1 patch fixed private-lobby joining and network synchronization. The co-op guide explains how multiplayer works. Local split-screen is not confirmed.
What recent patches changed
The demo has been updated several times before launch. The September 18, 2026 patch improved resource-gathering prompts, fixed world colliders and fixed lobby-code entry. The October 1, 2026 patch improved tutorials, fishing hints, garden beds and recipes.
Those changes explain why older guides may not match your game. Recipes were updated and one new recipe was added, so check the cookbook. Fishing spot detection was also improved.
Does demo progress carry over?
According to the September 18, 2026 official patch notes, demo saves can transfer to the full version. That replaces an older March 2025 developer reply that expected little or no carryover. Search results may still show the older answer. The 2026 patch notes are the current official position.
The exact import steps could not be tested before the Early Access launch. Keep your demo save intact until the transfer process is documented. The demo save transfer guide covers everything confirmed so far. We will add tested steps after launch.
Tips for your demo session
Keep your first menu small, as both recent creators found service easier that way. Place equipment before opening, since editing is unavailable during service. Use the quest journal to find your next activity. It was added in a May 2025 update to guide players.
Get the fishing rod from Croc when the quest appears, and water crops with the watering can. These basics are covered in the fishing rod guide and the farming guide. Follow the current prompts if a video shows something different. Patches have changed several systems since 2025.
Demo versus the Early Access game
The demo is a preview, while the Early Access release is the full game in development. PAO PAO is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access on October 26, 2026. Early Access means the game keeps receiving updates after launch.
Content in the demo is a sample of what the full game offers. The full game adds the wider seaside life described on the store page, including restaurant management, fishing, farming and exploration. The release date guide covers the launch in more detail.
Check your PC with the demo
The demo is also a free hardware test. Steam lists minimum requirements of Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, an Intel i3-10100, 4 GB of RAM and a GTX 1050. If the demo runs well, that is a useful sign for your setup, though the full game may differ.
Those are listed requirements rather than measured performance. Our Steam guide includes the full table. Test before launch day so you are not surprised. It costs nothing to check.
What is not confirmed
Some demo details have not been verified. There is no confirmed number of hours of demo content and no promise of unlimited play. Content is not guaranteed to be identical between the 2025 and 2026 builds. Older videos may show quests in a different order.
This page will be updated as the demo and full game change. Check the official news feed for new patch notes. Until then, the demo remains the best free way to try PAO PAO. Early Access is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
